Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 11:24

And I looked, and behold: See the comments on 2Esdras 11.2. Good News Bible says “I kept watching, and suddenly,” and Contemporary English Version has simply “Suddenly,” which is also possible.

Two little wings separated from the six and remained under the head that was on the right side; but four remained in their place: Good News Bible offers a good model here, and so does Contemporary English Version with “two of the small wings left their place and moved under the head on the right side of the eagle. The other four wings remained in place.” Translators do not have to worry about which Roman rulers are represented here. Again, this is not intended to be a realistic picture.
