Wait for me, young man: “My friend” (Good News Translation) or “friend” is a reasonable way to represent young man as an address from one youth to another. In America, Tobias would probably say “man.” See the note on 5.5.

Until I go in: It will be necessary in some languages to say where Tobias would go in, namely, “until I go back in the house and.”

I do need you to travel with me and “I would like for you…” (Good News Translation) are both subtle variations in English intended to fit Tobias’s words to the narrative context, and they both depend for their effectiveness on skillful public reading. The Greek simply says “I need you to go with me,” and most translators will probably find this an adequate model.

I will pay you your wages may be rendered “I will pay you for traveling with me.”
