Translation commentary on Letter of Jeremiah 1:37

The Good News Translation restructuring here is simple and easy. In Greek either verb, take pity or do good, could be applied to either object, widow or orphan. Good News Translation joins the two verbs and then joins the two objects. The two verbs could be expressed by one verb without any substantial loss of meaning; for example, Contemporary English Version says “or show mercy to widows and orphans.”
