Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 14:25

And he urged him to marry and have children: Nicanor urged Judas to marry and raise a family. This implies that Nicanor expected peaceful relations with the Jews in the future.

So he married, settled down, and shared the common life: The pronoun he refers to Judas. Settled down, and shared the common life is rendered in New Jerusalem Bible as “settled down and led a normal life” and in New English Bible as “settled down to the quiet life of an ordinary citizen.” Good News Bible is also good here.
