Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 12:30

But when the Jews who dwelt there bore witness to the good will which the people of Scythopolis had shown them and their kind treatment of them in times of misfortune: Good will and kind treatment refer to the same thing, so these expressions may be combined as in Good News Bible. This verse is part of a sentence in Revised Standard Version that continues in the next verse. We recommend that this long and complicated sentence be broken up into two sentences, with the first one ending at the end of this verse as Good News Bible does. An alternative model for this verse is:

• The Jews who lived in that city told Judas and his men how the people of Scythopolis had treated them very kindly, especially during hard times.
