Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 7:113

But the day of judgment will be the end of this age and the beginning of the immortal age to come, in which corruption has passed away: The words the beginning must be supplied here from other ancient translations; they are lacking in Latin (see Revised Standard Version footnote). The immortal age may be rendered “the future age in which people will live forever [or, there will be no death].” Corruption has passed away may be translated “wickedness will disappear” or “there will be no more wickedness.” Here is a possible model for this verse:

• But Judgment Day will mark the end of this age [or, world]. It will be the beginning of the future age [or, world], in which there will be no death and no more corruption [or, wickedness].
