And your sons will have no children: Contemporary English Version says “Your children will not have children.”

Because with you they have neglected my commandment and have done what is evil in my sight: The Jews will be driven from their land and not have descendants because of their disobedience. My commandment refers to all of God’s laws. For have done what is evil in my sight, see the comments on 1 Esd 1.39. Contemporary English Version renders these two clauses as “because like you, they ignored my laws and have done what I hate.”
