Out of the house to the door of the house: in some languages this may give the impression that the door is detached from the house and somewhere in the courtyard. This is obviously to be avoided. The expression shut up the house clearly implies that the priest is at the door. The briefer rendering of Good News Translation loses none of the meaning.
