Exegesis:

hoi de paragenomenoi pros ton Iēsoun ‘and they, when they came to Jesus.’

paraginomai ‘to come,’ ‘to arrive.’

parekaloun auton spoudaiōs ‘they requested him earnestly.’ The imperfect tense suggests duration. For parakaleō cf. on 3.18.

spoudaiōs ‘earnestly,’ ‘strongly.’

axios estin hō parexē touto ‘he deserves that you grant him this.’ axios ‘deserving’ is followed here by a qualitative-consecutive relative clause, expressing that the centurion’s quality is such that he deserves that his request should be granted.

Translation:

They, i.e. ‘the elders’ (Sundanese), ‘those sent’ (Javanese).

Besought him earnestly, or, ‘asked him urgently.’ Some idiomatic expressions used are, ‘to ask with the heart coming out’ (Tzotzil), ‘to give one a desire (i.e. to do what the beseecher asks)’ (Huichol in Mk. 1.40). Here again a shift to direct discourse may be preferable, e.g. ‘they urged him, “Please, do help him/the centurion” .’

Saying …, usually better as a new sentence, ‘they said (also)…,’ ‘they added….’

He is worthy to have you do this for him, or, “this man really deserves your help” (Good News Translation). He, i.e. the centurion, not the slave. For to be worthy see on 3.16.
