Translation commentary on Luke 7:17

Exegesis:

kai exēlthen ho logos houtos … peri autou ‘and this story went out about him.’ For peri autou cf. on 4.14.

en holē tē Ioudaia … kai pasē tē perichōrō ‘in the whole of the Jewish country and (in) all the surrounding region.’ The preposition en modifies both phrases notwithstanding their separation by peri autou. For perichōros cf. on 3.3 and 4.14. Here it refers to the area surrounding Judea. For Ioudaia cf. on 1.5.

Translation:

For this verse cf. 4.14b.

This report concerning him spread, or, ‘people told/spread this story about him,’ ‘everywhere people talked about this thing he had done.’

Through the whole of Judea, or, ‘in all the places/everywhere in the Jewish country,’ cf. 4.44.

All the surrounding country, or ‘all the countries around/near it.’
