Translators should follow Good News Translation in beginning a new sentence here, and establishing the connection with the previous verse by an expression such as “This happened so that….”

So that thy sons, whom thou didst love, O Lord, might learn that it is not the production of crops that feeds man: This verse is an expansion of Deut 8.3. Thy sons, whom thou didst love are the Israelites; Good News Translation has “the people whom you loved.” Might learn that it is not the production of crops that feeds man may be rendered “might learn not to depend upon their crops [or, what they grow] for food.”

But that thy word preserves those who trust in thee: Preserves could be expressed as “sustains,” “keeps alive,” or “provides nourishment.” Good News Translation translates this line as a separate sentence, and this works well.
