The enemies of thy people worship even the most hateful animals: The enemies of thy people is supplied from the context (see the Revised Standard Version footnote and verse 14). Good News Translation “Such people” is sufficient. Revised English Bible has “these people.” In the most hateful animals, the word hateful is better translated as “disgusting” (Good News Translation), “revolting,” or even “that turn our stomachs [or, make us sick].”

Which are worse than all others, when judged by their lack of intelligence: The Egyptians not only worshiped animals, but animals like beetles, crocodiles, and snakes, which are not known for being intelligent. Compare 11.15; 12.24. When judged by their lack of intelligence may be rendered “because they have such little intelligence” or even “when we see how little intelligence they have [or, how stupid they are].”
