Informed the king about me, that I was burying them may be rendered “told the emperor that I was the one who had been burying his victims” (Good News Translation) or “told him [the king] that I had secretly buried the bodies” (Contemporary English Version).

The structure of the last sentence in New Revised Standard Version is complicated. Here is the sequence of events in the verse as they actually took place:

The king knows about Tobit (burying people).
The king wants to put Tobit to death (as punishment).
The king sends men out to capture Tobit.
Tobit realizes all this.
Tobit becomes afraid.
Tobit runs away (for safety).

The Good News Translation rendering is somewhat simpler than this. The second sentence of verse 19 could also be broken down in this way:

• The king then gave orders that I should be hunted down and killed. When I heard about that, I feared for my life, and ran away.

Good News Translation has moved so I hid myself to the end of the verse. The writer may be saying, however, that in the first instance Tobit simply went into hiding, by keeping out of sight. When he learned that his life was actually in danger, he fled the country.
