And they will praise his holy name: The connector And introduces the consequence to verse 8, so it may be rendered “Then” or “When people realize this.” His holy name (literally “a name of holiness”) refers to the Lord himself, and when we praise his name, we praise the Lord himself. In languages that have no equivalent for holy in this context, we may simply render the whole line as “Then they [or, we] will praise him [the Lord].”

To proclaim the grandeur of his works: The grandeur of his works is almost exactly the same phrase used in verse 8 (“the majesty of his works”); the same Greek noun is used for grandeur and “majesty,” but it is plural here and singular in verse 8. Good News Translation translates his works as “his creation” in verse 8, but “all he does” here. Either can be justified, but it is likely the phrase has the same sense in both places.

The idea in this verse seems to be that when people realize the grandeur of creation, they will praise the Lord’s holy name by proclaiming what he has done in creation. So we recommend the following models:

• When they do, they will praise him [or, his holy name]
and proclaim the greatness of what he created.

• Then they will praise him
by proclaiming the greatness of what he created.
