All these: this apparently refers to both the baked goods mentioned in verse 26 and the fatty parts and hind leg of the animal in verse 25. New Jerusalem Bible translates “he placed these [the breads] on the fat and the right thigh and put it all into Aaron’s hands….” This may provide a good model for some other languages.

In the hands: some translations insist on using the word “palms” in this verse (New Jerusalem Bible), but this seems unnecessary and will be awkward or unnatural in many languages.

Waved them as a wave offering: see 7.30 on the question of a wave offering as opposed to “a special gift.” But there is an additional problem here of determining the real subject of the verb. TheVulgate has “they,” referring to Aaron and his sons, but the Hebrew has the third person singular pronoun, which seems to refer to Moses. This, however, is logically impossible. How could Moses perform any action with items that had already been placed in the hands of his brother and nephews? While Good News Translation translates “they,” other reliable versions use a kind of causative form retaining the third person singular pronoun. New American Bible, for example, has “… whom he had wave them as a wave offering” (similarly Moffatt and Traduction oecuménique de la Bible). Bible en français courant says “he told them to offer….” The meaning seems to be that Moses was somehow the agent in causing the action to be performed, but that he did not actually perform it himself. In view of the fact that a wave offering actually means “a special gift,” it may be best to translate the idea “and he [Moses] made them [Aaron and sons] present this food as a special gift to the LORD.”
