Already and now are not in the Greek text. Good News Translation incorporates these adverbs to bring out as effectively as possible the contrast in meaning in the Greek text between the perfect tense (have … seen) and the present tense (is talking). Phillips and New American Bible include the adverb now in the second clause of this sentence, while New English Bible translates “Indeed, it is he who is speaking to you.” Since this reference to the third person is clearly a reference to Jesus himself, it may be necessary to introduce the first person singular, for example, “You have already seen him, and I am the very one who is talking with you now.”
