Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch effectively expresses the prophets who prophesy in my name although I did not send them as “these lying prophets.” This is done on the assumption that the phrase “lying prophets” is defined in terms of what is said in verse 14: “14 … These prophets are telling lies! It is not true that they are speaking in my behalf … 15 … these lying prophets….” It is also possible to retain the repetition but make it more readable by having two or three short sentences for the verse:

• This is what I, the LORD, tell you I am going to do to those prophets. They claim to speak in my name, although I did not send them, and they say that there will be no war and famine in this land. Therefore it is by war and famine that I will kill them.
