Let them give glory to the LORD: The prophet continues to invite people to praise Yahweh here. The pronoun them could refer to all the people and creatures mentioned in verses 10-11, but it more likely points to the people of the coastlands in the following parallel line. Bible en français courant mentions the coastlands in this line for clarity, saying “May the distant populations give honor to the Lord” (similarly Good News Translation, Revised English Bible). Give glory may be rendered “glorify.” For glory see Isa 42.8.

And declare his praise in the coastlands is synonymous in meaning with the previous line. As in verse 10, his praise means praise given to God. Declare his praise may be rendered “declare how praiseworthy he is” or simply “praise him.”

Translation examples for this verse are:

• Let them glorify the LORD,
let them praise him throughout the coastlands.

• Let the people on the distant islands
give honor to the LORD and praise him.
