The people of the land shall worship at the entrance of that gate before the LORD on the sabbaths and on the new moons: The people of the land refers to the Israelites. The Hebrew verb rendered worship is the same one used in the previous verse (see the comments there). It means “bow down to show respect to me [God].” At the entrance of that gate means “in front of” (Good News Translation, New Living Translation) the same east gateway where the king is worshiping. Of course, the people will stay in the outer courtyard and not go into the gateway itself. On the sabbaths and on the new moons indicates that this verse refers to the normal times when both the king and the people will come to worship (see Ezek 46.1). This phrase may be rendered “on the days of rest and on the days of the new moon.”
