Good News Translation includes another heading at this point: “Rules for Admission to the Temple.” If translators have used a subsection heading at verse 1 that is similar to this, then they do not need another heading. Otherwise, they may have “The rules about who can go into the Temple.”

Then he brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple: The angelic guide led Ezekiel from the east gateway, via the outer courtyard, through the north gateway, until he was standing in the inner courtyard in front of the Temple. The conjunction Then (literally “And”) introduces the next thing that happened and may be rendered “Next” or “After that.” The pronoun he refers to the angelic guide. For brought me (literally “caused me to come”), see the comments on 40.17. Good News Translation and Contemporary English Version say “took me.” For the north gate of the inner courtyard, see 40.35-37.

And I looked, and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple of the LORD: Good News Translation begins this sentence with “As I looked, I saw….” For the glory of the LORD filled the temple, see 43.5. However, here Ezekiel adds of the LORD to the end of the clause. The repetition of the name of Yahweh reinforces the importance of the presence of God, and translators will do well to reflect that in some way. An example is “Yahweh’s glorious presence filled the Temple of Yahweh.”

And I fell upon my face: Just as he did in 1.28b (see the comments there), Ezekiel bowed down and lay on the ground in fear and awe.
