Its vestibule faced the outer court: In contrast to the outer gatehouses, in which the porches faced inward toward the Temple (see Ezek 40.7), the porches of the inner gatehouses faced outward toward the outer courtyard. Thus the outer and inner gatehouses were mirror images of each other. This was the main difference between them.
And palm trees were on its jambs, just like the outer gatehouses (see verse 16).
And its stairway had eight steps: The inner gatehouses had eight steps leading up to them, while the outer ones had only seven steps (see verses 22 and 26). This clause suggests that the inner courtyard was about 3 meters (10 feet) higher than the outer courtyard, depending on the height of each step.
