Both Revised Standard Version and Good News Bible insert a paragraph break here, which is appropriate.

The king fell into a rage may be expressed as “Antiochus became very [or, extremely] angry” or even “Antiochus’ heart became very hot.”

And handled him worse than the others refers to making the boy’s torture worse than the other brothers had suffered.

Being exasperated at his scorn means the king was angered and offended that the boy did not seem afraid of him, and was mocking him. Both Good News Bible and Contemporary English Version place their rendering for at his scorn at the beginning of the verse. Many translators will find this helpful.

Here is an alternative model for this verse:

• The king [or, Antiochus] was furious when he saw that this boy was not afraid of him, and was mocking him. So he made him suffer worse than the others [or, had him tortured worse than the others].
