Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 15:7

But Maccabeus did not cease to trust with all confidence that he would get help from the Lord: Judas’ confidence in help from God contrasts with Nicanor’s boast that he (without help) would defeat Judas. Good News Bible provides a helpful model for this verse. It continues the sentence here in the next verse, which works well. However, translators who wish can translate the two verses as separate sentences with no problem. Here is an alternative model for this verse:

• But Judas [Maccabeus] was still absolutely certain that the Lord would come and help [or, rescue] him and his men.
