Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 14:12

And he immediately chose Nicanor, who had been in command of the elephants, appointed him governor of Judea, and sent him off: For elephants see 1Macc 1.17. The clause and sent him off goes with the next verse and should be joined with it. Good News Bible‘s long sentence for this verse will be a little difficult to translate. Contemporary English Version joins the final clause of verse 11 to the first sentence of this verse. It also has three sentences in verse 12, making it easier to translate. For verses 11b-12 it has:

• Then Demetrius became so furious 12 that he immediately appointed Nicanor to be the new governor of Judea. This was the same Nicanor who had been the commander of his war elephants. Then Demetrius sent him to Judea….
