The standard formula summarizing the reign of a ruler is used here but with a special emphasis on the sins that Manasseh had committed.

As usual, the question format of the Hebrew and Revised Standard Version may be better translated as a statement in other languages (see 1 Kgs 11.41). Also, the reference to the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah does not refer to the biblical books of 1-2 Chronicles (see 1 Kgs 14.29).
