Therefore he sent me to show you all these things, and to say to you: The conjunction Therefore introduces a result of Ezra’s obedience. This sentence may be rendered “So he sent me to show you all these things, and to tell you.”

Believe and do not be afraid!: The verb Believe is better rendered “Put your trust in me” (similarly Good News Bible). New English Bible says “Be confident,” which is also legitimate. Good News Bible uses indirect discourse for this embedded quote, which other languages may find helpful. Some languages may prefer direct discourse by rendering this whole verse as follows:

• That is why he sent me to show you these things, and to tell you, ‘Don’t be afraid! Put your trust in me!
