Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 6:25

And it shall be that whoever remains after all that I have foretold to you shall himself be saved and shall see my salvation and the end of my world: Compare Mark 13.13. And it shall be, which introduces the next future event, may be omitted (so Good News Bible). Whoever remains may be rendered “whoever is still alive.” I have foretold to you may be translated “I have told you will happen.” Shall see my salvation may be expressed as “I will save [or, rescue].” Good News Bible provides a good model for this verse, but here are possible alternatives:

• “After everything that I have told you about has happened, anyone who is left alive will be saved when I bring to an end this world that I made.

• “After all these things have happened that I have told you about, I will bring to an end this world that I made, and I will save all those people who are still living.
