Translation commentary on 2 Esdras 5:31

When I had spoken these words, the angel who had come to me on a previous night was sent to me: The angel is Uriel, who first appeared in 2 Esd 4.1. Contemporary English Version makes this clear by saying “the angel Uriel,” which many languages will find helpful. A previous night may be rendered “an earlier night.” Actually, it was a week earlier, and translators may make this specific as in the following model for this verse:

• After I had finished speaking to God, he sent the angel Uriel who had appeared to me one night a week earlier.
