Now the rest of the acts of Josiah …: The usual formula is used in verses 26-27 to summarize the reign of Josiah. These verses sum up the remainder of his reign and tell where other information about him may be found. See the comments on 1 Chr 29.29 and 2 Chr 9.29.
And his good deeds according to what is written in the law of the LORD: In spite of Josiah’s disobedience at the end of his life, he receives a positive evaluation for his good deeds (see the comments on 2 Chr 32.32 for the Hebrew term used here). The passive expression what is written in the law of the LORD may be avoided by saying “the Teaching of the LORD” (New Jewish Publication Society’s Tanakh) or simply “the Law” (Good News Translation). The law of the LORD refers to the Pentateuch, often referred to as the Law of Moses (see the comments on 1 Chr 22.12 and 2 Chr 12.1).
