And of this cherub, one wing … (verse 12): Anchor Bible clarifies that this verse refers to the second cherub by saying “On the other hand, one wing of the second cherub….” Revised English Bible likewise says “Similarly, a wing of the second cherub….” The use of the singular form, cherub, in English is ill advised since this term has come to signify a chubby little angelic figure used on Valentine cards and bears little resemblance to the cherubim of the Bible. But this problem is unlikely to affect translators in other languages.
