Once again, the qualifying terms the priest and the prophet may be omitted here since this information has been given previously.

Anointed: See the comments on verse 34. Parole de Vie does not mention Nathan in this verse, saying only in the first half of it, “Then, the priest Zadok consecrated him as king near to the spring of Gihon.” The reason for this omission is not clear; perhaps the omission was made in order to harmonize this verse with verse 39. But there is no manuscript evidence for such a translation, and it is not recommended.

Gihon is Gihon Spring. See the comments on verse 33.

They have gone up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar: Up from there is translated “all the way back to Jerusalem” by Contemporary English Version.

The Hebrew connector for so that is the common conjunction, but there is some indication that what follows is the result of what has already been said. In some languages the order of these elements may be reversed in order to show more clearly the cause and effect as follows: “the city is in an uproar because they have gone there with great rejoicing.”

The same unusual word for city as found in verse 41 is used here. But, as has already been indicated, there is no reason to search for a different word in the receptor language.
