Translation commentary on 1 Corinthians 14:39

So marks the beginning of the conclusion of the whole argument. This transition as usual is marked by my brethren.

My brethren, as throughout 1 Corinthians, refers to “fellow Christians.”

Desire is the same verb as “make … aim” in verse 1. Many languages have idioms similar to Good News Bible‘s “set your heart on,” which will be effective in this context.

The phrase forbid speaking may be expressed as “forbid believers to speak.”
