Therefore: Barrett translates this word as “the conclusion of this … is.” Translators need to find a strong conjunction in their language which shows that Paul is now applying the previous argument.

My beloved means “fellow Christians.” One can translate this as “my dear fellow Christians.” Good News Bible‘s “my dear friends” is also possible. This is a variation from Paul’s more common phrase “my brothers.” Compare Phil 2.12.

Shun means literally “flee,” or “run away.” Some translators may prefer to avoid a metaphor here and say, for example, “do not worship idols at all.” The connection between this verse and 6.18 is close, not only in language but also in thought. Already in the Old Testament sexual immorality and unfaithfulness to God were closely connected; see the comments on 1 Cor. 10.8.

In Greek the worship of idols has the definite article, but this does not seem to be significant. Compare the comments on “cloud” and “sea” in 1 Cor. 10.1.
