The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three: Mushi was Merari’s second son (verse 21), Mahli being the first son. Mahli, the son of Mushi, was apparently given the same name as his uncle. Jeremoth is called “Jerimoth” in 1 Chr 24.30. As with the names Shebuel (verse 16) and Shelomith (verse 18), translators may choose to use a single spelling rather than two different spellings as in the Hebrew. La Bible Pléiade, for example, says “Jerimoth” both here and in 24.30. If this is not done in the receptor language, an explanatory footnote may be necessary.
As in earlier verses with a similar structure, the number three, which comes last in the Hebrew and Revised Standard Version, may be shifted forward in the receptor language (so Good News Translation, New American Standard Bible, Bible en français courant, Parole de Vie), or it may be left implied (so Contemporary English Version).
