Translation commentary on Luke 9:2

Exegesis:

kai apesteilen autous kērussein tēn basileian tou theou kai iasthai [tous astheneis] ‘and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.’ For apostellō cf. on 1.19. For kērussein tēn basileian tou theou cf. on 4.43f and 8.1. tous astheneis is omitted by Nestle.

asthenēs (also 10.9) lit. ‘weak,’ hence ‘sick,’ ‘ill.’

Translation:

He sent them out. The pronoun may have to be specified, e.g. ‘those men,’ ‘the twelve,’ ‘his disciples.’

To preach, cf. on 3.3.
