ekstasis ‘astonishment,’ cf. existamai (2.47).

kai eplēsthēsan phobou ‘and they were filled with awe.’ For the idiom of pimplēmi with genitive cf. on 1.15 and 4.28. For phobos cf. on 1.12.

legontes hoti ‘saying.’

paradoxa ‘wonderful things.’

Translation:

Amazement seized them all, or, ‘they became all amazed,’ for which see on “wondered” in 1.21.

Filled with awe, see on “filled with fear” in 2.9.

Saying is reciprocal: they are speaking to each other.

Strange things, or, ‘things we cannot believe, or, have never yet seen,’ ‘what will be-denied by those who hear it’ (Tae’ 1933), ‘what never yet has happened’ (Batak Toba), ‘things we don’t understand’ (Ekari), ‘things causing-surprise’ (Pohnpeian).
