The Greek that is translated as “to fulfill all righteousness” or similar in English is translated in the German New Testament translation by Berger / Nord (publ. 1999) with was Gott von jedem verlangt, den er als Gerechten annehmen will or “what God demands of everyone whom he wants to accept as righteous.” The translators explain (p. 577): “Literally: ‘to fulfill all righteousness.’ In view of Matthew 28:19 and following, Jesus humbly leads the way for every Christian, even though he himself does not need to be baptized.”
