The Greek in 1 Corinthians 1:18 that is translated as “the message about the cross is foolishness” or similar in English is translated in Huixtán Tzotzil as “the message about the cross are empty words they mistakenly think.” Huixtán Tzotzil frequently uses the verb -cuy to express “to mistakenly think something” from the point of view of the speaker.
