This verse brings to a conclusion the thesis that Paul laid down in verse 6. God judges everyone by the same standard must be taken to indicate that God shows no partiality in dealing with men, whether they be Jews or Gentiles. An American Translation* renders this by “for God shows no partiality” and in the Jerusalem Bible and New English Bible it appears as “God has no favorites.” The clause God judges everyone by the same standard may be rendered variously in different languages—for example, “men are all the same in the eyes of God,” “before God all people are equal,” “God does not treat certain people better than other people,” or even, “God does not say to one person rather than another, You are my special friend.” The acceptability of such expressions depends, of course, upon their traditional usage and idiomatic significance.
