Exegesis:

hoi peri auton lit. ‘those around him,’ i.e. ‘his disciples.’

to esomenon lit. ‘that which will be,’ here, ‘what was going to happen.’

kurie ‘Lord,’ cf. on 1.6 sub (2b).

ei pataxomen en machairē ‘shall we strike with a sword?,’ direct question introduced by ei cf. on 13.23. en machairē in the singular is used in a collective sense, cf. “with our swords” (Translator’s New Testament), and ‘with the sword’ (Bible de Jérusalem).

patassō ‘to strike,’ ‘to hit.’

Translation:

Those who were about him, or, specifying the reference, ‘the people beside/near Jesus’ (Ekari), “his followers” (New English Bible, similarly Balinese), ‘Jesus’ companions’ (Batak Toba).

Strike with the sword, or, ‘strike them with this sword’ (Balinese), ‘fight (them) with (our) swords.’ The intention probably is to rout the assailants rather than to kill them.
