About this time Antiochus made his second invasion of Egypt: Antiochus’ first invasion of Egypt, in 169 b.c., is mentioned in 1Macc 1.16-19. This second invasion was the next year. At the beginning of this new section it is appropriate to identify Antiochus as king, as in Contemporary English Version. Translators may wish to identify him further as “Antiochus the Fourth” (Good News Bible). This seems unnecessary for the present narrative, although in 1Maccabees five kings named “Antiochus” are involved.
