Translation commentary on Jeremiah 36:8

Since Baruch was recently identified as the son of Neriah (verse 4), it may not be necessary to include the phrase again in this verse. The same is true of the prophet as an identifier of Jeremiah, since by now the readers should be familiar with who Jeremiah is.

The scroll is not the complete expression that occurs in verses 2 and 4, but the second word of that expression, frequently meaning “writing” or “document.” However, it may also mean “scroll,” as here.
