The priest … the prophet: Since this information is already known about the two men, it may be unnecessary to add these words here. Both Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch and Bible en français courant identify Zephaniah as “the priest,” since he is the lesser known of the two, without qualifying Jeremiah as a prophet. Good News Translation shifts to a first person for Jeremiah, and translates “Zephaniah read the letter to me.”

In the hearing of: Hebrew has “in the ears of.” For in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet, Traduction œcuménique de la Bible and New Jerusalem Bible have “to the prophet Jeremiah” and Bible en français courant “to Jeremiah.”
