When the offering was finished is literally “And when to finish to offer up.” The Hebrew verb rendered was finished is the same one at the end of the previous verb, although the form is different here. As in the previous verse, this passive verb may be made active by making explicit the agents who are the priests. Because this clause is redundant, some translators may prefer to omit it (so Good News Translation).
The king and all who were present with him bowed themselves and worshiped: The Hebrew verb rendered bowed themselves means “to kneel.” For worshiped see the comments on the previous verse. But here its sense may be more general in view of the more specific verb that precedes it (compare 2 Chr 7.3). For these two verbs Good News Translation provides a helpful model with “knelt down and worshiped God.”
