Forsook: This rather archaic English verb form has been replaced in New Revised Standard Version by “abandoned.” Some other possible translations are “renounced,” “deserted,” “refused to be faithful” (Contemporary English Version), and “rejected” (New Century Version).

The expression the God of his fathers refers to the God whom his ancestors had worshiped. This expression is used frequently in 2 Chronicles (21.10; 28.25; 30.19; 33.12).

Did not walk in the way of the LORD: As in the previous verse, the verb walk refers to the overall behavior or conduct of Amon. He “acted” like his father.

The way of the LORD may be understood as a reference to “the path of the LORD” (New American Bible) or as a synonymous expression for the “commandments of the LORD” (similarly Good News Translation). In either case the meaning is that Amon had failed to live up to what the LORD wanted him to do.
