Observe: in addition to “Obey” (Good News Translation), this may also be translated “take seriously” or “not forget.” This is the same word that is translated “keep” in the Revised Standard Version rendering of 19.19.

I am the LORD: once again the basis for all these rules and regulations is made clear. It is the LORD himself who gives them, and it is he that acted mightily to deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. See 18.2.
